In 2021, the EU aromatic polyamines market decreased by -27% to $X, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, consumption, however, showed a pronounced descent. In 2021, shipments abroad of aromatic polyamines and their derivatives, salts thereof was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, aromatic polyamines exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Belgium (X tons) and Germany (X tons) dominates exports structure, together comprising 83% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Slovakia (X tons), generating a 7.7% share of total exports. Hungary (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 15%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of aromatic polyamines and their derivatives, salts thereof, when their volume increased by 22% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, saw a pronounced downturn. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Poland (X tons), Slovakia (X tons), Portugal (X tons), Romania (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to aromatic polyamines imports into Germany stood at +1.9%. At the same time, Romania (+23.5%), Slovakia (+13.3%), Portugal (+13.1%), the Netherlands (+12.2%), Hungary (+10.7%), the Czech Republic (+4.1%) and Spain (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +23.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Italy (-1.6%), France (-4.0%), Belgium (-7.4%) and Poland (-20.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Germany (+12 p.p.), the Netherlands (+3.6 p.p.), Slovakia (+3.2 p.p.), Romania (+3.2 p.p.), Spain (+2.9 p.p.), Portugal (+2.8 p.p.) and the Czech Republic (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Belgium and Poland saw its share reduced by -8.3% and -22.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported aromatic polyamines and their derivatives, salts thereof in the European Union, comprising 36% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Spain ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Belgium, with an 8.7% share.

In Germany, aromatic polyamines imports expanded at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Spain (-2.3% per year) and Belgium (-7.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, growing by 7.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 24% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
