In value terms, asbestos exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 14,963%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, Bulgaria (X tons) was the largest exporter of asbestoses, generating 75% of total exports. Spain (X tons) took an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the Netherlands (9.3%) and France (4.6%).

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to asbestos exports from Bulgaria stood at +20.0%. At the same time, Spain (+136.6%) and France (+75.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -15% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw strong growth. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, asbestos imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a mild expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 566% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Romania represented the largest importing country with an import of about X tons, which accounted for 56% of total imports. Austria (X tons) took a 36% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Sweden (6.8%).

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Austria (with a CAGR of +447,432.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Austria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported asbestoses in the European Union, comprising 75% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Romania ($X), with a 16% share of total imports.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
