In value terms, baby garment exports dropped slightly to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +90.0% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped in the following year.

In 2022, Spain (X units) and the Netherlands (X units) represented the key exporters of babies’ garments and clothing accessories (knitted or crocheted) in the European Union, together generating 44% of total exports. Poland (X units) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 13% share, followed by Germany (11%) and France (11%). Hungary (X units), Portugal (X units), Slovakia (X units), Italy (X units), the Czech Republic (X units) and Denmark (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +44.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Spain ($X), Poland ($X) and Germany ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 53% of total exports. France, the Netherlands, Italy, Portugal, Denmark, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 40%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Hungary, with a CAGR of +37.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2022, which is down by -5.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the export price increased by 7.9% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per unit), while the Netherlands ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Portugal (+4.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas purchases of babies’ garments and clothing accessories (knitted or crocheted) increased by 2.1% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 13%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, baby garment imports reached $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 18%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, France (X units), Germany (X units), Spain (X units), Poland (X units), Italy (X units) and the Netherlands (X units) was the key importer of babies’ garments and clothing accessories (knitted or crocheted) in the European Union, constituting 75% of total import. The following importers - Belgium (X units), Portugal (X units), Romania (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Austria (X units), Ireland (X units) and Denmark (X units) - together made up 15% of total imports.

In 2022, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, rising by 4.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 6.7%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per unit), while Poland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
