In value terms, beryl imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 308%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Hungary prevails in imports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 84% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Romania (X kg) and Germany (X kg), together achieving an 11% share of total imports. France (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Hungary was also the fastest-growing in terms of the beryl imports, with a CAGR of +29.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Romania (+12.9%) and Germany (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, France (-19.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Hungary (+75 p.p.) and Romania (+4.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of France (-17.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported beryl in the European Union, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hungary ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Romania, with a 7.2% share.

In Germany, beryl imports expanded at an average annual rate of +33.8% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (+8.8% per year) and Romania (+12.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -15.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 226% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
