Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, blueberry and cranberry exports fell dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 34%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then plummeted in the following year.

For the eleventh consecutive year, the European Union recorded growth in purchases abroad of blueberries and cranberries, which increased by 14% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 42%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, blueberry and cranberry imports dropped modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 34%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then shrank modestly in the following year.

The Netherlands was the largest importer of blueberries and cranberries in the European Union, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was near 35% of total imports in 2022. Germany (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Spain (X tons) and Poland (X tons). All these countries together held near 39% share of total imports. Poland, France, Italy, Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic and Lithuania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 24%.

Poland, with a CAGR of +38.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -16.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a slight decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 7.8%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
