It was distantly followed by the Netherlands (X tons), Greece (X tons), Croatia (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Spain (X tons), together generating a 48% share of total exports. France (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Belgium decreased at an average annual rate of -1.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Croatia (+104.6%), Greece (+15.7%), France (+8.8%) and Spain (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Croatia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +104.6% from 2012-2021. Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the Netherlands (-8.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Croatia (+9.8 p.p.), Greece (+8.1 p.p.) and France (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Belgium and the Netherlands saw its share reduced by -4% and -16% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Belgium ($X) remains the largest calcium carbonate supplier in the European Union, comprising 38% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Spain, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Belgium stood at -2.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: France (+7.3% per year) and Spain (+4.0% per year).

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 22%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Greece ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, purchases abroad of calcium carbonate increased by 8.1% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The following importers - Spain (X tons), Sweden (X tons), Latvia (X tons), Poland (X tons), Romania (X tons) and Austria (X tons) - together made up 14% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Latvia (with a CAGR of +62.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest calcium carbonate importing markets in the European Union were Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Belgium ($X), with a combined 63% share of total imports. These countries were followed by France, Poland, Spain, Austria, Sweden, Romania and Latvia, which together accounted for a further 23%.
Latvia, with a CAGR of +22.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 5.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 14%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Latvia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
