These countries were followed by France, Italy, Spain, Poland, the Czech Republic, Portugal, Austria, Romania and Sweden, which together accounted for a further 48%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Spain, with a CAGR of +12.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 3.3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 11%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Portugal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
