The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 52%. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, carob exports rose slightly to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, carob imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +35.4% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 58%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Spain (X tons) and Italy (X tons) represented roughly 64% of total imports in 2022. The Netherlands (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by France (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Germany (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 31% share of total imports. Cyprus (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Cyprus (with a CAGR of +151.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest carob importing markets in the European Union were Italy ($X), Spain ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together comprising 63% of total imports. France, Germany, Belgium and Cyprus lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.

Cyprus, with a CAGR of +133.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -23.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 32%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then plummeted in the following year.
