In value terms, cashew nut production contracted remarkably to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the production volume increased by 647%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.
The country with the largest volume of cashew nut production was the Netherlands (X tons), accounting for 96% of total volume. It was followed by Portugal (X tons), with a 2.5% share of total production.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in the Netherlands amounted to +76.8%.

Exports in the EU
Cashew nut exports fell to X tons in 2021, shrinking by -14.5% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 2,086%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, cashew nut exports declined to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 1,215% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.
Exports by Country
The Netherlands (X tons) represented roughly 97% of total exports in 2021.
The Netherlands was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cashew nuts exports, with a CAGR of +58.1% from 2012 to 2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the Netherlands increased by +64 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) also remains the largest cashew nut supplier in the European Union.

Export Prices by Country
The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 5.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 64%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for the Netherlands.

After two years of decline, overseas purchases of cashew nuts increased by 22% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 27%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country
In 2021, Belgium (X tons) represented the major importer of cashew nuts, achieving 36% of total imports. Denmark (X tons) took a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Italy (11%), the Netherlands (10%), France (5.9%) and Spain (4.6%). Finland (X tons) and Portugal (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to cashew nut imports into Belgium stood at +12.0%. At the same time, Portugal (+36.0%), Finland (+34.0%), Denmark (+22.8%) and Italy (+9.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Portugal emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +36.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the Netherlands (-1.7%), Spain (-21.2%) and France (-31.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Belgium (+32 p.p.), Denmark (+15 p.p.), Italy (+9.4 p.p.), the Netherlands (+5.8 p.p.), Finland (+2.9 p.p.) and Portugal (+2.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Spain (-9.6 p.p.) and France (-60.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Belgium ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cashew nuts in the European Union, comprising 48% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Denmark, with a 12% share.
In Belgium, cashew nut imports expanded at an average annual rate of +13.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+0.8% per year) and Denmark (+20.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 13% against the previous year. Import price indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, cashew nut import price decreased by -13.0% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 24% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Portugal (+6.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
