Centrifuges Market Size in the EU
The EU centrifuges market rose notably to $X in 2021, picking up by 11% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption decreased by -2.1% against 2019 indices. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
Centrifuges Production in the EU
In value terms, centrifuges production contracted rapidly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, showed a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2021, production growth remained at a lower figure.

Exports in the EU
In 2021, overseas shipments of centrifuges increased by 36% to X units, rising for the fourth consecutive year after five years of decline. In general, exports enjoyed a measured expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 61% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
In value terms, centrifuges exports stood at $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a slight contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 9.9%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Germany (X units) represented the main exporter of centrifuges, generating 43% of total exports. Italy (X units) held an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Sweden (8.6%), the Netherlands (7.4%), Slovakia (6.3%), Poland (5.5%), Denmark (5.2%) and Belgium (4.8%). France (X units) held a relatively small share of total exports.
Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of centrifuges. At the same time, Slovakia (+107.5%), Belgium (+28.2%), the Netherlands (+21.9%), Poland (+13.4%), Sweden (+12.5%) and Italy (+5.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Slovakia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +107.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Denmark (-1.9%) and France (-12.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Slovakia (+6.3 p.p.), the Netherlands (+5.7 p.p.), Sweden (+4.5 p.p.), Belgium (+4.1 p.p.) and Poland (+3.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Denmark (-3.2 p.p.), France (-6.7 p.p.) and Germany (-19.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest centrifuges supplier in the European Union, comprising 70% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 5.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Sweden, with a 4.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Germany was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (+8.8% per year) and Sweden (+0.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, falling by -24.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 18% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while Slovakia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+0.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Centrifuges Imports
Imports in the EU
In 2021, centrifuges imports in the European Union reached X units, surging by 11% compared with the previous year. In general, imports saw prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 33% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, centrifuges imports rose remarkably to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Germany (X units), distantly followed by France (X units), Italy (X units), the Netherlands (X units), Belgium (X units) and Austria (X units) represented the key importers of centrifuges, together creating 75% of total imports. The following importers - Denmark (X units), Bulgaria (X units), Sweden (X units), Hungary (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Lithuania (X units) and Romania (X units) - together made up 17% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +31.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest centrifuges importing markets in the European Union were Germany ($X), France ($X) and Italy ($X), together accounting for 46% of total imports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Denmark, Bulgaria, Sweden, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Lithuania and Romania, which together accounted for a further 36%.
Bulgaria, with a CAGR of +23.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2021, waning by -3.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 17% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Belgium ($X per unit) and Bulgaria ($X per unit), while France ($X per unit) and Sweden ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (-6.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
