Over the period under review, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units, and then declined rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, non-electric chainsaw exports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank in the following year.

Exports by Country

Sweden dominates exports structure, accounting for X units, which was near 58% of total exports in 2022. The Czech Republic (X units) held an 8.4% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Belgium (6.8%), Spain (5.3%) and Italy (5%). Poland (X units) and the Netherlands (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Sweden experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of chainsaws with a self-contained non-electric motor. At the same time, Poland (+16.7%) and Spain (+10.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +16.7% from 2012-2022. The Czech Republic experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Belgium (-2.2%), the Netherlands (-6.6%) and Italy (-6.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Sweden (+6 p.p.), Spain (+3.5 p.p.) and Poland (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the Netherlands and Italy saw its share reduced by -2.1% and -4.6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Sweden ($X) remains the largest non-electric chainsaw supplier in the European Union, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 6.2% share of total exports. It was followed by Belgium, with a 5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Sweden was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Czech Republic (-1.4% per year) and Belgium (-1.6% per year).

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2022, rising by 2.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the export price increased by 3.3% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per unit), while Poland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 28%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, non-electric chainsaw imports expanded to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 28%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2022, France (X units), Germany (X units), Italy (X units), Poland (X units), Spain (X units), Romania (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Bulgaria (X units), Belgium (X units), Hungary (X units), the Netherlands (X units) and Greece (X units) was the key importer of chainsaws with a self-contained non-electric motor in the European Union, mixing up 84% of total import.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +9.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, France ($X), Germany ($X) and Italy ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 42% share of total imports. Poland, Spain, Romania, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Hungary, Bulgaria, Greece and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 36%.

In 2022, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, growing by 4.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a mild contraction. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per unit), while Bulgaria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+1.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
