Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, chlorates, bromates and iodates exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

France (X tons) and Spain (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together committing 84% of total exports. Sweden (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Austria (X tons). All these countries together held near 12% share of total exports. Belgium (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Austria (with a CAGR of +59.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, France ($X) remains the largest chlorates, bromates and iodates supplier in the European Union, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belgium ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Spain, with a 7.5% share.

In France, chlorates, bromates and iodates exports increased at an average annual rate of +20.4% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belgium (-2.0% per year) and Spain (+22.2% per year).

In 2021, supplies from abroad of chlorates and perchlorates, bromates and perbromates, iodates and periodates was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, recorded a perceptible contraction. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, chlorates, bromates and iodates imports rose significantly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 13%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Sweden (X tons) represented the major importer of chlorates and perchlorates, bromates and perbromates, iodates and periodates, constituting 39% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Portugal (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Germany (X tons), together achieving a 41% share of total imports. Spain (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Poland (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -4.4% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 28% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then shrank modestly in the following year.
