Helicopter Market Size in the EU

The EU helicopter market shrank dramatically to $X in 2022, falling by -38.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption recorded a pronounced reduction. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, helicopter production reduced modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production continues to indicate a noticeable slump. Poland dominates exports structure, finishing at X units, which was near 83% of total exports in 2022. Germany (X units), Estonia (X units), the Czech Republic (X units) and Cyprus (X units) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to helicopter exports from Poland stood at +62.3%. At the same time, Estonia (+100.7%), Cyprus (+98.9%), the Czech Republic (+39.5%) and Germany (+11.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Estonia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +100.7% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Poland, Estonia and Cyprus increased by +72, +1.8 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest helicopter supplier in the European Union, comprising 50% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 3.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Germany stood at +9.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (-0.3% per year) and the Czech Republic (+5.9% per year).

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2022, falling by -72.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a dramatic decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 3.6% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while Cyprus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (-2.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2022, overseas purchases of civil helicopters increased by 162% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 175%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, helicopter imports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +3.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 47% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

The Netherlands represented the largest importer of civil helicopters in the European Union, with the volume of imports reaching X units, which was near 38% of total imports in 2022. Croatia (X units) held a 21% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Estonia (14%), Spain (6.7%) and France (5.2%). Belgium (X units) and Bulgaria (X units) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Croatia (with a CAGR of +135.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Spain ($X) and Croatia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 41% of total imports.

Croatia, with a CAGR of +157.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, declining by -58.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, enjoyed a temperate increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 2,963%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per unit), while Bulgaria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+14.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
