In 2021, the EU civil reaction engine market increased by 58% to $X, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, consumption saw a precipitous slump. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, approx. X units of civil reaction engines were exported in the European Union; growing by 28% on the year before. Overall, exports continue to indicate tangible growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 185%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, civil reaction engine exports dropped notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 103%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020, and then declined markedly in the following year.

Poland represented the key exporter of civil reaction engines in the European Union, with the volume of exports accounting for X units, which was approx. 56% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Italy (X units), Sweden (X units) and Spain (X units), together committing a 35% share of total exports. The Netherlands (X units) and Belgium (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Poland was also the fastest-growing in terms of the civil reaction engines exports, with a CAGR of +58.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belgium (+36.3%), Italy (+8.9%) and Spain (+4.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, the Netherlands (-6.6%) and Sweden (-10.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Poland (+55 p.p.), Italy (+10 p.p.) and Belgium (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the Netherlands and Sweden saw its share reduced by -4.4% and -14.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Italy ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Sweden ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 18% of total exports. These countries were followed by Poland, Spain and Belgium, which together accounted for a further 6.2%.

Poland, with a CAGR of +24.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, declining by -40.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the export price increased by 207% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while Poland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+20.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in the EU

In 2021, supplies from abroad of civil reaction engines decreased by -63.1% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, imports showed a dramatic decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 135%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, civil reaction engine imports totaled $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a sharp shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 170%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X units) represented the major importer of civil reaction engines, achieving 51% of total imports. Spain (X units) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by the Netherlands (X units) and Croatia (X units). All these countries together held near 34% share of total imports. The following importers - the Czech Republic (X units), France (X units) and Sweden (X units) - together made up 7.1% of total imports.

Imports into Germany decreased at an average annual rate of -32.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Croatia (+103.6%), the Netherlands (+37.3%), Sweden (+24.2%) and the Czech Republic (+17.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Croatia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +103.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, France (-4.5%) and Spain (-4.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Spain (+20 p.p.), the Netherlands (+6 p.p.), Croatia (+5.4 p.p.), the Czech Republic (+3.2 p.p.), France (+2 p.p.) and Sweden (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Germany saw its share reduced by -44.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, France ($X), Germany ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 91% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +47.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2021, with an increase of 192% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded resilient growth. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per unit), while Croatia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+46.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
