The EU concentrated grapefruit juice market soared to $X in 2021, rising by 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a mild reduction. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated grapefruit juice production reached $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 15%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in the EU
Concentrated grapefruit juice exports declined dramatically to X tons in 2021, reducing by -26.9% on the previous year. Over the period under review, exports saw a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 45%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, concentrated grapefruit juice exports fell markedly to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 24%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
The Netherlands represented the largest exporter of concentrated grapefruit juice in the European Union, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was near 80% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Romania (X tons), comprising a 14% share of total exports. Spain (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.
Exports from the Netherlands decreased at an average annual rate of -2.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Romania (+77.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +77.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Spain (-23.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Romania (+14 p.p.) and the Netherlands (+8.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Spain saw its share reduced by -11.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest concentrated grapefruit juice supplier in the European Union, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Spain ($X), with a 4.6% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in the Netherlands was relatively modest. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (-10.4% per year) and Romania (+50.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 16% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+16.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in the EU
In 2021, purchases abroad of concentrated grapefruit juice increased by 0.2% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. In general, imports, however, showed a perceptible reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 3.4% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, concentrated grapefruit juice imports declined to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The Netherlands was the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which reached 31% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Germany (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons), France (X tons), Poland (X tons), Italy (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Belgium (X tons), together mixing up a 57% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to concentrated grapefruit juice imports into the Netherlands stood at -4.4%. At the same time, Bulgaria (+46.3%) and Belgium (+5.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bulgaria emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +46.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Germany (-1.6%), Spain (-2.0%), Italy (-6.6%), Poland (-8.0%) and France (-11.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Bulgaria, Belgium and Germany increased by +10, +2.5 and +2.3 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported concentrated grapefruit juice in the European Union, comprising 35% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 9.2% share.
In the Netherlands, concentrated grapefruit juice imports shrank by an average annual rate of -2.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Germany (-2.2% per year) and Italy (-4.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -13.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 42% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while Bulgaria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+5.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
