In general, consumption, however, recorded a slight shrinkage. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2018; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
In value terms, copper bars, wire and plates exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Germany (X tons) was the key exporter of copper bars, wire and plates, generating 38% of total exports. Italy (X tons) took an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Belgium (10%), Poland (9.4%), France (8.1%) and Spain (7.8%). Bulgaria (X tons) held a little share of total exports.
Exports from Germany increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Bulgaria (+6.6%), Poland (+2.7%), Belgium (+2.3%) and Italy (+1.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bulgaria emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +6.6% from 2012-2021. Spain and France experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest copper bars, wire and plates supplier in the European Union, comprising 40% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belgium ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Italy, with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Germany stood at +2.6%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belgium (+3.6% per year) and Italy (+2.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, growing by 39% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Germany ($X per ton) and Bulgaria ($X per ton), while Spain ($X per ton) and Italy ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+2.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the EU
In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of copper bars, wire and plates, when their volume increased by 16% to X tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, copper bars, wire and plates imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the twelve major importers of copper bars, wire and plates, namely Italy, Germany, France, the Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Spain, Austria, Hungary, the Netherlands, Belgium and Portugal, represented more than two-thirds of total import.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +5.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest copper bars, wire and plates importing markets in the European Union were Italy ($X), Germany ($X) and France ($X), with a combined 42% share of total imports. In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, growing by 37% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Romania ($X per ton) and Portugal ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) and Spain ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
