In 2021, the EU copper tube and pipe market increased by 35% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, consumption saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of copper tubes and pipes, when their volume increased by 8.8% to X tons. Overall, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, copper tube and pipe exports soared to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
The shipments of the three major exporters of copper tubes and pipes, namely Germany, Greece and Italy, represented more than two-thirds of total export. It was distantly followed by Austria (X tons), achieving a 7.8% share of total exports. Finland (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Poland (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +10.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, surging by 34% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Italy ($X per ton) and Finland ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) and Greece ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Greece (+1.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Copper Tubes And Pipes
Imports in the EU
In 2021, supplies from abroad of copper tubes and pipes increased by 17% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, copper tube and pipe imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Italy (X tons), Germany (X tons) and France (X tons) represented roughly 46% of total imports in 2021. The Czech Republic (X tons) held a 7.8% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Poland (7.8%), Spain (6.5%) and the Netherlands (4.6%). Belgium (X tons), Sweden (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Portugal (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Romania (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Hungary (with a CAGR of +6.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Italy ($X), Germany ($X) and France ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 47% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the Czech Republic, Poland, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Austria, Hungary, Romania and Portugal, which together accounted for a further 45%.
Romania, with a CAGR of +5.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 29% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while Portugal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+2.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
