For the third consecutive year, the EU cottonseed market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 3.4% to $X in 2022. The total consumption indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +2.6% against 2018 indices. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -10.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 48% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cottonseed exports soared to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +112.8% against 2017 indices. In value terms, Greece ($X) remains the largest cottonseed supplier in the European Union, comprising 89% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Spain ($X), with a 6.9% share of total exports.

In value terms, Italy ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cottonseed in the European Union, comprising 66% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Spain ($X), with a 21% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Italy was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Spain (+5.7% per year) and the Czech Republic (+25.7% per year).
