Cow Peas Market Size in the EU

The EU cow peas market surged to $X in 2021, picking up by 18% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, saw a remarkable increase. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cow peas exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports saw a significant expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Latvia dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 71% of total exports in 2021. The Netherlands (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Hungary (X tons). The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -7.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 83% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cow peas imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 117% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2021, Portugal (X tons), Italy (X tons), Greece (X tons), Spain (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) represented the largest importer of cow peas (dry) in the European Union, comprising 85% of total import. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Germany ($X per ton) and the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Portugal ($X per ton) and Italy ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
