Truck Crane Market Size in the EU

The EU truck crane market contracted to $X in 2021, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a pronounced decrease. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, approx. X units of truck cranes were exported in the European Union; picking up by 21% against the year before. Overall, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, truck crane exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a mild decrease. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X units) represented the main exporter of truck cranes, comprising 70% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the Netherlands (X units), creating a 15% share of total exports. The following exporters - Belgium (X units), France (X units) and Italy (X units) - together made up 8.2% of total exports.

Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of truck cranes. At the same time, the Netherlands (+2.7%), France (+2.2%) and Belgium (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +2.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Italy (-7.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Netherlands (+4.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Italy saw its share reduced by -1.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest truck crane supplier in the European Union, comprising 82% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with an 8.6% share of total exports. It was followed by Belgium, with a 1.8% share.

In Germany, truck crane exports shrank by an average annual rate of -1.1% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Netherlands (+1.6% per year) and Belgium (-3.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, approximately mirroring the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 15%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while Belgium ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (-0.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in the EU

In 2021, the amount of truck cranes imported in the European Union skyrocketed to X units, growing by 17% compared with the year before. Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +9.8% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, truck crane imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the Netherlands (X units) was the largest importer of truck cranes, committing 41% of total imports. Italy (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 7.9% share, followed by France (7.7%), Germany (6.8%) and Poland (5.5%). Greece (X units), Spain (X units), Belgium (X units), Finland (X units), Sweden (X units), Ireland (X units), Austria (X units) and Hungary (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to truck crane imports into the Netherlands stood at +7.1%. At the same time, Hungary (+62.0%), Greece (+35.1%), Ireland (+22.4%), Italy (+12.4%), Poland (+11.2%), Finland (+10.2%), Austria (+9.4%), France (+5.0%), Spain (+4.3%), Germany (+1.1%) and Sweden (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +62.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Belgium (-13.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Netherlands (+6.1 p.p.), Greece (+3.9 p.p.), Italy (+3.6 p.p.), Poland (+2.2 p.p.), Hungary (+1.8 p.p.) and Ireland (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Germany and Belgium saw its share reduced by -2.8% and -15.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest truck crane importing markets in the European Union were the Netherlands ($X), France ($X) and Spain ($X), together accounting for 43% of total imports. Italy, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Sweden, Ireland, Austria, Finland, Greece and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 44%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Hungary, with a CAGR of +55.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2021, approximately equating the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a mild downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 12% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
