Over the period under review, crude imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, marble and travertine crude imports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Greece (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 22% share, followed by Germany (21%) and Spain (5.7%). From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Denmark (with a CAGR of +49.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Italy ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported marble and travertine in the European Union, comprising 69% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Greece ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Spain, with a 6.6% share.
