In 2021, Germany (X tons), distantly followed by France (X tons), Italy (X tons), Poland (X tons), Romania (X tons), Portugal (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) represented the largest exporters of raw steel and steel semi-finished products, together generating 74% of total exports. The following exporters - Sweden (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Slovakia (X tons), Spain (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Austria (X tons) - together made up 22% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Portugal (with a CAGR of +26.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 32% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while Portugal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
