Based on 2022 figures, cucumber and gherkin yield decreased by -0.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 29%. In value terms, cucumber and gherkin exports rose markedly to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 14% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to cucumber and gherkin imports into Germany stood at +1.0%. At the same time, Romania (+18.0%), Poland (+9.6%), Bulgaria (+8.6%), Hungary (+6.0%), Austria (+3.7%), Italy (+3.0%) and Sweden (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. In value terms, Germany ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cucumbers and gherkins in the European Union, comprising 48% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 7.5% share of total imports. It was followed by France, with a 6.7% share.
In Germany, cucumber and gherkin imports increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (-1.2% per year) and France (+3.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
