Austria (+36 p.p.) and Slovakia (+3.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Belgium and Germany saw its share reduced by -5.1% and -26.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Austria ($X) and Italy ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 56% of total imports. These countries were followed by Slovakia, Belgium and Sweden, which together accounted for a further 26%.

Slovakia, with a CAGR of +53.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2021, with a decrease of -23.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 12% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per unit), while Austria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
