In 2021, overseas shipments of disperse dyes and preparations based thereon were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable curtailment. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, disperse dye exports surged to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Germany (X tons) and Italy (X tons) represented roughly 54% of total exports in 2021. Spain (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with an 11% share, followed by the Netherlands (7.3%), Austria (5.8%) and Belgium (4.7%). Portugal (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Portugal (with a CAGR of +7.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest disperse dye supplier in the European Union, comprising 57% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($X), with an 8.1% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 7.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Germany amounted to +3.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Italy (+1.8% per year) and the Netherlands (+9.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -3.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the export price increased by 24%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, overseas purchases of disperse dyes and preparations based thereon increased by 26% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, disperse dye imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Germany (X tons), Spain (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Italy (X tons) represented roughly 62% of total imports in 2021. Austria (X tons) took a 7.3% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Belgium (4.7%). Lithuania (X tons), Portugal (X tons), France (X tons), Finland (X tons), Poland (X tons), Romania (X tons) and Slovenia (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Spain (with a CAGR of +17.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest disperse dye importing markets in the European Union were Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and Spain ($X), together accounting for 62% of total imports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Austria, Belgium, Portugal, France, Poland, Romania, Finland, Lithuania and Slovenia, which together accounted for a further 32%.
In terms of the main importing countries, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +15.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 5% against the previous year. Import price indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, disperse dye import price decreased by -2.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 13%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
