In 2021, Poland (X units), distantly followed by Germany (X units), Italy (X units), Romania (X units), the Netherlands (X units) and Spain (X units) represented the key exporters of domestic appliances, together generating 72% of total exports. Slovakia (X units), Sweden (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Belgium (X units), France (X units), Hungary (X units) and Slovenia (X units) took a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +6.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), Poland ($X) and Italy ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 53% share of total exports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Romania, Sweden, France, Spain, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia and Slovakia, which together accounted for a further 39%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Romania, with a CAGR of +13.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 6.9% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the export price increased by 9.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while Romania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

For the fifth year in a row, the European Union recorded growth in purchases abroad of domestic appliances, which increased by 14% to X units in 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, domestic appliances imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +78.3% against 2015 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Germany (X units), distantly followed by France (X units), Italy (X units), the Netherlands (X units), Spain (X units), Poland (X units) and Belgium (X units) were the largest importers of domestic appliances, together comprising 73% of total imports. Sweden (X units), Romania (X units), Hungary (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Denmark (X units) and Austria (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +8.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest domestic appliances importing markets in the European Union were Germany ($X), France ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), with a combined 45% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, Spain, Poland, Belgium, Sweden, Austria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Hungary and Romania, which together accounted for a further 43%.
Romania, with a CAGR of +12.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 8.9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 10%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
