In 2022, overseas shipments of dry vegetables decreased by -10.5% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after four years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, dry vegetable exports declined to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 15% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
Exports by Country
The shipments of the four major exporters of dry vegetables, namely Poland, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands, represented more than two-thirds of total export. France (X tons) took a 7.7% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Hungary (5.2%) and Belgium (4.7%).
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Hungary (with a CAGR of +9.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest dry vegetable supplying countries in the European Union were Germany ($X), Poland ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), with a combined 57% share of total exports.
Poland, with a CAGR of +8.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, falling by -3.1% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 28%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then shrank modestly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+3.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, imports of dry vegetables in the European Union reduced slightly to X tons, waning by -4.6% compared with the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 13% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, dry vegetable imports dropped to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Germany (X tons), distantly followed by the Netherlands (X tons), Spain (X tons), Italy (X tons), France (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) were the key importers of dry vegetables, together making up 73% of total imports. Hungary (X tons), Romania (X tons), Austria (X tons), Sweden (X tons), Croatia (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Hungary (with a CAGR of +12.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported dry vegetables in the European Union, comprising 28% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by France, with an 8.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Germany amounted to +2.3%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+0.6% per year) and France (-0.1% per year).

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -3.4% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 15%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then contracted modestly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+6.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
