From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to electric rail locomotive exports from Germany stood at -30.1%. At the same time, Italy (+67.0%), Slovakia (+42.5%), France (+39.5%) and Spain (+23.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Italy emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +67.0% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Italy, Spain, Slovakia and France increased by +11, +4.1, +3.9 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest electric rail locomotive supplier in the European Union, comprising 73% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Italy, with a 3.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Germany was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: France (+22.6% per year) and Italy (+28.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2022, picking up by 80% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 14,234% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per unit), while Slovakia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+42.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in the EU
In 2022, the amount of electric rail locomotives imported in the European Union skyrocketed to X units, increasing by 65,534% compared with the previous year. In general, imports showed a significant increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, electric rail locomotive imports reached $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 101%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the one major importers of electric rail locomotives, namely Denmark, represented more than two-thirds of total import.
Denmark was also the fastest-growing in terms of the electric rail locomotives imports, with a CAGR of +41,000.7% from 2012 to 2022. While the share of Denmark (+99 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2022, falling by -99.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a sharp decrease.
