Ecg Market Size in the EU

For the tenth year in a row, the EU ECG market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 1.2% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption saw a strong increase. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, ECG production contracted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production recorded resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the production volume increased by 40%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.

Germany represented the major exporting country with an export of about X units, which resulted at 53% of total exports. The Netherlands (X units) held a 20% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Italy (6.7%) and Spain (4.9%). The following exporters - Denmark (X units), Finland (X units) and France (X units) - together made up 9.2% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to ECG exports from Germany stood at +5.3%. At the same time, Finland (+84.3%), the Netherlands (+31.4%), Spain (+24.1%), France (+15.6%) and Italy (+6.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Finland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +84.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Denmark (-10.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the Netherlands, Germany, Spain and Finland increased by +17, +4.8, +3.9 and +2.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest ECG supplying countries in the European Union were the Netherlands ($X), Germany ($X) and Finland ($X), together comprising 80% of total exports.

Finland, with a CAGR of +76.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 3.2% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 16%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while Spain ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+1.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, Germany (X units) represented the key importer of electro-cardiographs, committing 45% of total imports. France (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 12% share, followed by Spain (8.8%) and the Netherlands (8.4%). Italy (X units), Austria (X units), Finland (X units), Belgium (X units), Sweden (X units) and Denmark (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to ECG imports into Germany stood at +4.2%. At the same time, Finland (+32.4%), the Netherlands (+21.9%), Spain (+12.3%), France (+7.6%), Sweden (+4.7%) and Austria (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Finland emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +32.4% from 2012-2021. Italy experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Denmark (-5.7%) and Belgium (-6.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Netherlands (+6.2 p.p.), Spain (+4 p.p.), Finland (+3.3 p.p.) and France (+2.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Italy, Denmark, Germany and Belgium saw its share reduced by -3.1%, -3.2%, -3.3% and -5.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest ECG importing markets in the European Union were Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Italy ($X), with a combined 60% share of total imports.

The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +34.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2021, dropping by -7.8% against the previous year. Import price indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, ECG import price increased by +57.7% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the import price increased by 22%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per unit), while Germany ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
