In value terms, hot-rolled steel products exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

The shipments of the twelve major exporters of flat-rolled products of iron or steel (not further worked than hot-rolled), namely Belgium, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Slovakia, Sweden, Austria, Romania, Spain, the Czech Republic and Poland, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Sweden (with a CAGR of +3.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest hot-rolled steel products supplying countries in the European Union were Belgium ($X), Germany ($X) and France ($X), with a combined 42% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Sweden, the Netherlands, Italy, Slovakia, Austria, Spain, Romania, Poland and the Czech Republic, which together accounted for a further 47%.

Among the main exporting countries, Romania, with a CAGR of +7.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 46% against the previous year. Export price indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+3.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, hot-rolled steel products imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

The countries with the highest levels of hot-rolled steel products imports in 2021 were Italy (X tons), Germany (X tons), Poland (X tons), Spain (X tons), Belgium (X tons), France (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Portugal (X tons), Austria (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons), together accounting for 88% of total import.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +14.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Italy ($X), Germany ($X) and France ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 44% of total imports. Poland, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Austria, Portugal, Hungary and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 44%.

Hungary, with a CAGR of +15.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 48% against the previous year. Import price indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in France ($X per ton) and Germany ($X per ton), while Portugal ($X per ton) and Belgium ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+2.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
