In value terms, seafood meals and pellets exports expanded notably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 7.8% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Denmark represented the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which recorded 44% of total exports. Germany (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 20% share, followed by Spain (13%). France (X tons), Latvia (X tons), Ireland (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Poland (X tons), Estonia (X tons) and Portugal (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Denmark experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of flours, meals and pellets of fish or of crustaceans and molluscs. At the same time, the Netherlands (+18.8%), Estonia (+18.1%), Portugal (+12.8%), Latvia (+11.7%), Spain (+5.9%), Ireland (+5.5%), Poland (+2.4%) and France (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +18.8% from 2012-2021. After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of flours, meals and pellets of fish or of crustaceans and molluscs decreased by -2.2% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports saw a pronounced setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Italy ($X per ton) and France ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) and Spain ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
