In 2021, the amount of furniture of plastic exported in the European Union skyrocketed to X units, growing by 21% compared with the year before. Total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +61.7% against 2015 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, plastic furniture exports surged to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 20%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Italy represented the key exporting country with an export of about X units, which finished at 49% of total exports. The Netherlands (X units) held a 10% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Poland (9.8%), Spain (6.2%) and Germany (6%). The following exporters - Belgium (X units) and the Czech Republic (X units) - each recorded a 7.7% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to plastic furniture exports from Italy stood at +4.0%. At the same time, the Czech Republic (+33.2%), Spain (+13.4%), the Netherlands (+10.2%), Poland (+8.0%), Germany (+3.0%) and Belgium (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Czech Republic emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +33.2% from 2012-2021. While the share of the Netherlands (+3.4 p.p.), the Czech Republic (+3.1 p.p.), Spain (+2.9 p.p.) and Poland (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Italy (-6.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the largest plastic furniture supplier in the European Union, comprising 31% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 10% share.

In Italy, plastic furniture exports increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Netherlands (+8.6% per year) and Germany (-0.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2021, with a decrease of -5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a slight decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 14% against the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

The countries with the highest levels of plastic furniture imports in 2021 were France (X units), Germany (X units), Spain (X units) and the Netherlands (X units), together finishing at 63% of total import. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X units), generating a 5.6% share of total imports. The following importers - Italy (X units), Poland (X units), Denmark (X units), Sweden (X units), Ireland (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Austria (X units) and Slovakia (X units) - together made up 22% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Slovakia (with a CAGR of +15.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, France ($X), Germany ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 50% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Spain, Belgium, Poland, Italy, the Czech Republic, Austria, Sweden, Denmark, Ireland and Slovakia, which together accounted for a further 39%.

Among the main importing countries, the Czech Republic, with a CAGR of +14.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 3.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a mild descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 3.6%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while Spain ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
