The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. In 2021, Germany (X tons), distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), France (X tons), Poland (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) represented the main importers of glucose and glucose syrup, together achieving 75% of total imports. Italy (X tons), Denmark (X tons), Austria (X tons), Spain (X tons), Finland (X tons), Ireland (X tons) and Greece (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Ireland (with a CAGR of +15.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported glucose and glucose syrup in the European Union, comprising 26% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Germany totaled -2.2%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (-5.7% per year) and the Netherlands (-5.9% per year).

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 2.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 7.9%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
