Belgium (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Slovenia (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the largest granite building stone supplier in the European Union, comprising 48% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Spain ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Portugal, with an 8.9% share.
In Italy, granite building stone exports plunged by an average annual rate of -2.6% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Spain (+0.9% per year) and Portugal (+5.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 5.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a noticeable curtailment. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while Portugal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+6.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2021, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of granite building stone, when their volume decreased by -5.4% to X tons. Overall, imports showed a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 8.9%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, granite building stone imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
Imports by Country
Germany represented the major importing country with an import of around X tons, which reached 35% of total imports. Poland (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by France (7.2%), Austria (6.5%), Romania (5.8%), the Netherlands (5.2%) and Belgium (4.8%). Italy (X tons), Spain (X tons), Slovenia (X tons), Ireland (X tons), Denmark (X tons) and Sweden (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
Imports into Germany decreased at an average annual rate of -2.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Slovenia (+10.2%), Denmark (+8.3%), Romania (+6.6%), Ireland (+4.4%) and Sweden (+4.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Slovenia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +10.2% from 2012-2021. Poland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Spain (-1.2%), France (-1.2%), Austria (-1.3%), Italy (-4.1%), the Netherlands (-4.4%) and Belgium (-11.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Romania increased by +3.1 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Germany ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported granite building stone in the European Union, comprising 29% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 9.7% share of total imports. It was followed by France, with a 9.6% share.
In Germany, granite building stone imports declined by an average annual rate of -1.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (+2.6% per year) and France (+1.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 27% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Denmark ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
