The EU animal guts market expanded sharply to $X in 2022, rising by 10% against the previous year. The biggest shipments were from Germany (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Spain (X tons), together accounting for 57% of total export. Poland (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Denmark (X tons). All these countries together held near 15% share of total exports. France (X tons), Romania (X tons), Italy (X tons), Portugal (X tons), Ireland (X tons), Slovakia (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Romania (with a CAGR of +16.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Spain ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 59% of total exports. Poland, Denmark, France, Portugal, Italy, Slovakia, Ireland, Belgium, Romania and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 35%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Slovakia, with a CAGR of +9.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 4.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 17%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of guts, bladders and stomachs of animals, when their volume increased by 6.2% to X tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 8.2%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
