The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 24%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank in the following year.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Germany (X units) represented the main exporter of handtools, hydraulic or with a self-contained non-electric motor, achieving 42% of total exports. Sweden (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Spain (X units), the Netherlands (X units), Poland (X units), Italy (X units) and France (X units). All these countries together held approx. 46% share of total exports.
Exports from Germany increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Poland (+27.8%) and Spain (+11.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +27.8% from 2012-2022. France and the Netherlands experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Sweden (-1.4%) and Italy (-2.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Poland (+5.5 p.p.) and Spain (+5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Italy and Sweden saw its share reduced by -2.5% and -3.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest non-electric motor handtools supplier in the European Union, comprising 44% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Sweden ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 7.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Germany totaled +3.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Sweden (+0.5% per year) and the Netherlands (+1.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while Spain ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+1.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the EU
For the third year in a row, the European Union recorded growth in overseas purchases of handtools, hydraulic or with a self-contained non-electric motor, which increased by 46% to X units in 2022. Overall, imports recorded strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 60%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, non-electric motor handtools imports totaled $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
France (X units), Germany (X units), Italy (X units), Spain (X units) and Poland (X units) represented roughly 82% of total imports in 2022. The Netherlands (X units) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Belgium (X units). All these countries together held approx. 10% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Italy (with a CAGR of +17.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest non-electric motor handtools importing markets in the European Union were France ($X), Germany ($X) and Poland ($X), with a combined 43% share of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +8.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
