The EU headphone market soared to $X in 2022, picking up by 107% against the previous year. In general, consumption continues to indicate a buoyant increase. As a result, consumption reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, headphone production surged to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last decade. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X units in 2021, and then fell sharply in the following year.

In value terms, headphone exports declined remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. In 2022, Poland (X units), distantly followed by Germany (X units), the Netherlands (X units), Italy (X units), the Czech Republic (X units) and Denmark (X units) represented the main exporters of headphones, together constituting 75% of total exports. Sweden (X units), France (X units), Slovakia (X units), Belgium (X units), Austria (X units), Hungary (X units) and Spain (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Austria (with a CAGR of +84.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest headphone supplying countries in the European Union were Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Italy ($X), together comprising 47% of total exports. The Czech Republic, Poland, Sweden, France, Denmark, Slovakia, Belgium, Austria, Hungary and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 44%.

Austria, with a CAGR of +89.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2022, picking up by 31% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while Poland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, overseas purchases of headphones decreased by -11.7% to X units for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year rising trend. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, headphone imports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant increase. In 2022, Germany (X units) represented the major importer of headphones, making up 33% of total imports. Poland (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 12% share, followed by the Czech Republic (9.3%), Sweden (7%), the Netherlands (6.7%) and France (6.1%). Slovakia (X units), Italy (X units), Spain (X units), Austria (X units), Belgium (X units), Denmark (X units) and Finland (X units) held a minor share of total imports.

Imports into Germany increased at an average annual rate of +13.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Slovakia (+36.8%), Poland (+30.7%), the Czech Republic (+23.3%), Sweden (+12.4%), Finland (+10.9%), the Netherlands (+5.0%), Austria (+4.6%), Italy (+4.0%), Spain (+3.8%) and France (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Slovakia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +36.8% from 2012-2022. Denmark experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Belgium (-1.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic and Slovakia increased by +9.8, +7, +6.2 and +3.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported headphones in the European Union, comprising 23% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by France, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Germany amounted to +12.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Netherlands (+13.4% per year) and France (+9.2% per year).

In 2022, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, remaining constant against the previous year. Import price indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
