Total exports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -23.4% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 31% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, homogenised jam and marmalade exports contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 31%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Spain (X tons) represented the largest exporter of homogenised preparations of jams, fruit jellies and marmalades, constituting 39% of total exports. Greece (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Italy (X tons), France (X tons), Poland (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 46% share of total exports. Germany (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to homogenised jam and marmalade exports from Spain stood at +6.1%. At the same time, the Netherlands (+13.4%), Italy (+8.4%), Poland (+4.7%), Greece (+2.5%) and France (+1.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +13.4% from 2012-2022. Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Spain (+5 p.p.), Italy (+3.4 p.p.) and the Netherlands (+2.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of France (-2.8 p.p.), Germany (-2.8 p.p.) and Greece (-3.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Spain ($X), Italy ($X) and France ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 63% share of total exports. Poland, Germany, the Netherlands and Greece lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 26%.
The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +19.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 6.8% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 12%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while Greece ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+6.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the EU
After two years of decline, overseas purchases of homogenised preparations of jams, fruit jellies and marmalades increased by 18% to X tons in 2022. Total imports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -16.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 20%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, homogenised jam and marmalade imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -15.8% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 29%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The Netherlands (X tons) and Germany (X tons) represented roughly 37% of total imports in 2022. Portugal (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 8.2% share, followed by Ireland (7.3%), Sweden (5.6%), France (5.3%) and the Czech Republic (4.9%). Spain (X tons), Poland (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Italy (X tons), Denmark (X tons) and Romania (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Denmark (with a CAGR of +19.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest homogenised jam and marmalade importing markets in the European Union were Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Portugal ($X), together comprising 44% of total imports. Sweden, France, Denmark, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Ireland, Spain, Poland, Italy and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 42%.
Among the main importing countries, Denmark, with a CAGR of +22.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, waning by -9.2% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 15%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per ton), while Ireland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
