Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the production volume increased by 16% against the previous year. The level of production peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

After two years of growth, shipments abroad of vegetable puree decreased by -2.1% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 12% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, vegetable puree exports reduced to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 19%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
Exports by Country
Italy represented the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which amounted to 40% of total exports. Spain (X tons) took a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the Netherlands (9.6%), France (8.5%), Poland (7.1%), Bulgaria (6.8%) and Germany (4.7%).
Italy experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of vegetable puree. At the same time, the Netherlands (+10.1%) and France (+5.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +10.1% from 2012-2022. Bulgaria and Spain experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Poland (-2.4%) and Germany (-4.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the Netherlands (+5.7 p.p.) and France (+3.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Italy (-2 p.p.), Poland (-2.7 p.p.) and Germany (-3.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the largest vegetable puree supplier in the European Union, comprising 32% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with an 8.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Italy stood at +4.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: France (+7.6% per year) and the Netherlands (+10.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -9.4% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.0%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 19%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+4.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the EU
After three years of growth, purchases abroad of vegetable puree decreased by -7.6% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 18%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, vegetable puree imports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 15% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
Imports by Country
Belgium represented the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which recorded 31% of total imports. Germany (X tons) held an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Italy (8.2%), France (8.1%), Romania (6.2%), Austria (6.2%) and the Netherlands (6%). Sweden (X tons), Spain (X tons), Slovakia (X tons), Luxembourg (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
Belgium experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of vegetable puree. At the same time, Italy (+12.7%), Romania (+11.5%), Germany (+10.2%), Austria (+7.5%), Luxembourg (+6.6%), Hungary (+3.4%), Poland (+1.5%) and Slovakia (+1.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Italy emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +12.7% from 2012-2022. Sweden and the Netherlands experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Spain (-1.8%) and France (-5.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Germany (+6.6 p.p.), Italy (+5.5 p.p.), Romania (+3.9 p.p.) and Austria (+3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while France saw its share reduced by -6.5% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Belgium ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported vegetable puree in the European Union, comprising 28% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 9.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 7.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Belgium was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Germany (+6.3% per year) and Italy (+8.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Luxembourg ($X per ton), while France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
