In value terms, horizontal machining centre exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a slight decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 15% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The Czech Republic represented the major exporting country with an export of about X units, which accounted for 34% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Germany (X units), Italy (X units), Belgium (X units) and the Netherlands (X units), together making up a 45% share of total exports. The following exporters - France (X units), Poland (X units), Slovakia (X units), Sweden (X units), Luxembourg (X units) and Spain (X units) - together made up 15% of total exports.
Exports from the Czech Republic decreased at an average annual rate of -1.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Luxembourg (+66.6%), Sweden (+30.6%), France (+9.2%), Poland (+7.9%), Slovakia (+4.8%), the Netherlands (+2.7%) and Belgium (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Luxembourg emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +66.6% from 2012-2021. Italy experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Spain (-10.1%) and Germany (-15.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Czech Republic (+8.3 p.p.), Italy (+5.5 p.p.), Belgium (+3.8 p.p.), France (+3.1 p.p.), the Netherlands (+3.1 p.p.), Luxembourg (+2 p.p.), Sweden (+2 p.p.) and Poland (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Germany saw its share reduced by -32.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest horizontal machining centre supplier in the European Union, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($X), with a 9.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Belgium, with an 8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Germany totaled -2.4%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Italy (-4.1% per year) and Belgium (-0.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 5.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed temperate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 122%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the Czech Republic ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+15.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the EU
In 2021, purchases abroad of horizontal machining centres for working metal was finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Total imports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -38.4% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, horizontal machining centre imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the Netherlands (X units) and Spain (X units) were the main importers of horizontal machining centres for working metal in the European Union, together recording approx. 39% of total imports. Italy (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 12% share, followed by Belgium (10%), Germany (8.2%) and France (4.6%). Greece (X units), Slovakia (X units), Austria (X units), Poland (X units), Portugal (X units), Luxembourg (X units) and the Czech Republic (X units) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Greece (with a CAGR of +51.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Italy ($X), Germany ($X) and Belgium ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 47% of total imports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, France, Austria, Poland, Spain, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Portugal, Luxembourg and Greece, which together accounted for a further 40%.
Luxembourg, with a CAGR of +25.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2021, with an increase of 7.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while Greece ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+8.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
