The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +48.9% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 29%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
In value terms, inactive yeast exports totaled $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +85.5% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 32%. Spain (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Lithuania (X tons) and Denmark (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Spain (with a CAGR of +18.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, France ($X), Belgium ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 45% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Estonia, Italy, the Netherlands, Denmark, Poland, Spain, the Czech Republic and Lithuania, which together accounted for a further 50%.
Spain, with a CAGR of +21.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 3.7% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 21% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2018; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per ton), while Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a resilient expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, inactive yeast imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +94.7% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Germany represented the key importer of inactive yeasts and other dead single-cell micro-organisms in the European Union, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 42% of total imports in 2021. France (X tons) held a 9.8% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Belgium (9.4%), Italy (6.7%), Poland (5.4%), the Netherlands (5.1%) and the Czech Republic (4.8%).
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to inactive yeast imports into Germany stood at +12.3%. At the same time, the Czech Republic (+20.3%), Italy (+9.5%), Poland (+8.7%), Belgium (+8.7%), the Netherlands (+4.7%) and France (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. In value terms, Germany ($X), France ($X) and Belgium ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 46% of total imports. The Netherlands, Italy, the Czech Republic and Poland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.
Among the main importing countries, the Czech Republic, with a CAGR of +14.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining stable against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 8.9%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
