The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest industrial monocarboxylic fatty acids supplier in the European Union, comprising 49% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belgium ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 15% share.
In the Netherlands, industrial monocarboxylic fatty acids exports expanded at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belgium (+1.2% per year) and Germany (+0.3% per year).

Total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +80.8% against 2015 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

While the share of Italy (+11 p.p.) and the Netherlands (+8.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Sweden (-5.3 p.p.) and Germany (-9.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Italy ($X) and Germany ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 64% of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Italy, with a CAGR of +14.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
