As a result, production attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, overseas shipments of industrial robots for multiple uses increased by 16% to X units for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Total exports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -13.0% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 26%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, industrial robot exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 32%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

Exports by Country

Germany was the main exporter of industrial robots for multiple uses in the European Union, with the volume of exports amounting to X units, which was near 37% of total exports in 2021. Italy (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 13% share, followed by Sweden (9.3%), France (8.6%) and Austria (6.5%). Spain (X units), Luxembourg (X units), Finland (X units), Belgium (X units), the Netherlands (X units), Slovenia (X units), Croatia (X units) and Denmark (X units) held a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to industrial robot exports from Germany stood at +1.5%. At the same time, Croatia (+70.6%), Slovenia (+39.5%), Luxembourg (+24.1%), Denmark (+16.5%), Finland (+8.8%), France (+7.9%), Belgium (+6.0%), Spain (+5.5%), Italy (+5.0%), the Netherlands (+4.3%), Austria (+3.2%) and Sweden (+3.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Croatia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +70.6% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Luxembourg, France, Slovenia and Croatia increased by +2.3, +2.3, +2.2 and +1.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and Denmark ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 54% of total exports. These countries were followed by France, Austria, Sweden, the Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, Finland, Luxembourg, Slovenia and Croatia, which together accounted for a further 42%.

Croatia, with a CAGR of +52.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 3.3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 12% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per unit), while Croatia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+13.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the EU

After two years of decline, purchases abroad of industrial robots for multiple uses increased by 14% to X units in 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, industrial robot imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X units), distantly followed by Italy (X units), Spain (X units), France (X units), Poland (X units), the Czech Republic (X units) and Belgium (X units) were the major importers of industrial robots for multiple uses, together making up 74% of total imports. Austria (X units), the Netherlands (X units), Sweden (X units), Luxembourg (X units) and Portugal (X units) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Luxembourg (with a CAGR of +22.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
