The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

Germany was the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which finished at 48% of total exports. Italy (X tons) took a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Slovenia (6.6%), Austria (5.6%) and the Czech Republic (4.9%). The following exporters - France (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Poland (X tons), Portugal (X tons), Lithuania (X tons) and Sweden (X tons) - together made up 17% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to metal rivet exports from Germany stood at +2.1%. At the same time, Lithuania (+17.3%), Portugal (+14.4%), Poland (+13.4%), the Czech Republic (+7.8%), Italy (+6.0%) and Austria (+3.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lithuania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +17.3% from 2012-2022. Slovenia and Sweden experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, France (-1.7%) and the Netherlands (-4.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Italy (+3.4 p.p.), Poland (+2 p.p.), Lithuania (+1.9 p.p.), the Czech Republic (+1.9 p.p.) and Portugal (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while France, Slovenia, Germany and the Netherlands saw its share reduced by -2%, -2.3%, -3.2% and -3.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest metal rivet supplier in the European Union, comprising 55% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Austria, with a 7% share.

In Germany, metal rivet exports increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Italy (+10.1% per year) and Austria (+4.8% per year).

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2022, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. In 2022, approx. X tons of iron or steel rivets were imported in the European Union; surging by 3.8% against the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 18%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, metal rivet imports rose modestly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
