The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2022, Belgium (X tons) was the largest exporter of jute and jute-like fibers, achieving 67% of total exports. Germany (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by France (X tons). All these countries together took near 17% share of total exports. Spain (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Portugal (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

Belgium experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of jute and jute-like fibers. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 57%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, jute and jute-like fibers imports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports posted a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 143%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
