Total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Germany dominates exports structure, reaching X units, which was near 82% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the Netherlands (X units) and France (X units), together making up a 9.6% share of total exports.
Exports from Germany increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Netherlands (+17.4%) and France (+9.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +17.4% from 2012-2021. While the share of the Netherlands (+3.4 p.p.) and France (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Germany (-4.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest laser supplier in the European Union, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with a 7% share of total exports.
In Germany, laser exports expanded at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Netherlands (+13.4% per year) and France (+6.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, approximately reflecting the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 10%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, laser imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports enjoyed strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 34%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Germany (X units) and Spain (X units) were the main importers of lasers, other than laser diodes in 2021, recording approx. 27% and 19% of total imports, respectively. Italy (X units) took the next position in the ranking, followed by the Netherlands (X units), Belgium (X units) and France (X units). All these countries together took near 37% share of total imports. The following importers - Poland (X units) and the Czech Republic (X units) - each finished at a 6.1% share of total imports.

In value terms, Germany ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported lasers, other than laser diodes in the European Union, comprising 48% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 7.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Germany stood at +9.7%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+9.9% per year) and Italy (+8.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2021, declining by -12% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern.
