In 2022, the EU lead market increased by 12% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 25% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Germany ($X per ton) and Poland ($X per ton), while Sweden ($X per ton) and France ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 9.5% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Poland (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 6.8% share, followed by Greece (6.4%), France (4.8%) and Slovenia (4.8%).

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Greece (with a CAGR of +14.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest lead importing markets in the European Union were Germany ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Italy ($X), together comprising 50% of total imports. Spain, Poland, Greece, Slovenia and France lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 32%.

Greece, with a CAGR of +15.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining stable against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+1.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
