Lifting Equipment Market Size in the EU

The EU lifting equipment market totaled $X in 2021, rising by 3.3% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, lifting equipment exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Germany (X units) was the key exporter of lifting equipment, creating 29% of total exports. The Netherlands (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Italy (X units), Belgium (X units), Slovenia (X units), Austria (X units) and Spain (X units). All these countries together took approx. 53% share of total exports.

Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of lifting equipment. At the same time, the Netherlands (+12.0%), Slovenia (+11.6%), Austria (+4.3%), Belgium (+3.5%) and Spain (+3.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +12.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Italy (-1.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the Netherlands and Slovenia increased by +7.2 and +5.1 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2021, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per unit), while Germany ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Lifting equipment imports surged to X units in 2021, jumping by 100% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports posted resilient growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Belgium (X units) represented the main importer of lifting equipment, achieving 43% of total imports. Imports into Belgium increased at an average annual rate of +21.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Sweden (+29.1%), Germany (+21.8%), Ireland (+21.4%), Portugal (+20.6%), the Netherlands (+19.1%), Poland (+13.8%), France (+10.6%), Lithuania (+6.1%) and Austria (+5.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Sweden emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +29.1% from 2012-2021. Spain and Italy experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Belgium (+26 p.p.), Sweden (+15 p.p.), the Netherlands (+3.2 p.p.), Germany (+2.7 p.p.) and Portugal (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Austria, Italy and Spain saw its share reduced by -1.7%, -2.6% and -3.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest lifting equipment importing markets in the European Union were Belgium ($X), Sweden ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together comprising 55% of total imports. These countries were followed by Austria, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland, Ireland, Portugal and Lithuania, which together accounted for a further 38%.

Ireland, with a CAGR of +31.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, falling by -23.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a mild descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 39%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per unit), while Lithuania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+8.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
