Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Spain (X units), Italy (X units), Germany (X units), the Netherlands (X units) and Slovakia (X units) represented roughly 77% of total exports in 2022. Sweden (X units) held a 6.3% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by France (4.7%).

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Slovakia (with a CAGR of +73.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Spain ($X), Italy ($X) and Germany ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 49% of total exports. The Netherlands, Slovakia, Sweden and France lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 38%.

Slovakia, with a CAGR of +69.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, remaining constant against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a perceptible curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 13% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Spain ($X per unit) and Slovakia ($X per unit), while the Netherlands ($X per unit) and France ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.

In 2022, purchases abroad of lifts and hoists decreased by -1.1% to X units for the first time since 2014, thus ending a seven-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 24%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2021, and then shrank slightly in the following year.

In value terms, lift and hoist imports expanded notably to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +56.6% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 16%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

The purchases of the twelve major importers of lifts and hoists, namely the Netherlands, Germany, France, Poland, Sweden, Italy, Austria, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Romania and the Czech Republic, represented more than two-thirds of total import.

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2022, rising by 6.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a perceptible decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 8.7%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Poland ($X per unit) and Romania ($X per unit), while Spain ($X per unit) and Sweden ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.
