Germany was the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which resulted at 46% of total exports. Belgium (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 16% share, followed by the Netherlands (12%), Poland (5.7%) and the Czech Republic (5.6%). France (X tons) and Austria (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.
Exports from Germany increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Poland (+19.7%), the Netherlands (+19.1%) and the Czech Republic (+9.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +19.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Austria (-1.7%), France (-2.8%) and Belgium (-3.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Netherlands (+9.3 p.p.), Poland (+4.5 p.p.) and the Czech Republic (+2.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while France and Belgium saw its share reduced by -1.9% and -9.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest liquid air and distilled water supplier in the European Union, comprising 38% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 13% share.
In Germany, liquid air and distilled water exports declined by an average annual rate of -2.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (+56.5% per year) and the Netherlands (+12.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 8.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 62% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, purchases abroad of liquid or compressed air and distilled or conductivity water increased by 22% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports posted a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 85%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, liquid air and distilled water imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports posted a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 757%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Poland was the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which amounted to 46% of total imports. Belgium (X tons) took a 9.8% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by France (7.7%), Austria (7.7%), Germany (6.5%) and Italy (6.1%). The Netherlands (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.
Poland was also the fastest-growing in terms of the liquid or compressed air and distilled or conductivity water imports, with a CAGR of +47.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Netherlands (+12.9%), Italy (+8.8%), Belgium (+8.2%), France (+4.7%) and Austria (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Poland (+42 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Belgium, France, Austria and Germany saw its share reduced by -1.7%, -4.4%, -6.7% and -8.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. In value terms, Poland ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported liquid or compressed air and distilled or conductivity water in the European Union, comprising 87% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 3.1% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Poland amounted to +83.3%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+11.0% per year) and the Netherlands (+18.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 364% against the previous year. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Austria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
